The hardness of natural stone tiles varies such that some of the softer stone tiles are not suitable for very heavy traffic floor areas. On the other hand, ceramic tiles are considered as the most commonly used floor tiles due to its looks and appearance in addition to the durability.
A wide range of ceramic floor tiles are there including quarry tiles, pressed tiles, monocottura tiles etc. Some people refer to all ceramic floor tiles as "quarry tiles", but in fact, "quarry tiles" only refers to the extruded type tile which is generally rougher in finish and less dimensionally accurate than a "pressed" tile. In fact, the name "quarry tile" stems from when this sort of tile was actually quarried out of the ground.
